Description

Zoom on the Westinghouse WPX2800

The Westinghouse WPX2800 is a medium to heavy duty pressure washer, and enables:

  • spot cleaning of hard, paintless surfaces and reaching far-away areas
  • thorough cleaning of hard, paint-free surfaces
  • cleaning of painted and fragile surfaces
  • use of detergent and cleaning solutions

The following sections will present you in detail its power characteristics and design, its main features and all the additional features it has to offer.

Power

The Westinghouse WPX2800 in use

The Westinghouse WPX2800

Powered by a 173 cc (5 hp) engine, its aluminum axial cam pump can deliver a pressure of 2800 PSI (around 47 times more than a standard garden hose) and a flow of up to 2.3 GPM (values claimed by the manufacturer). Combined, these values mean that the Westinghouse WPX2800 has a cleaning power of 6440 Cleaning Units.

The Westinghouse engine of this gas-powered pressure washer relies on an old-school pull-start mechanism to get started.

Gasoline storage is facilitated by a fuel tank with a maximum capacity of 0.3 gallon.

Design & Handling

The Westinghouse WPX2800 is very mobile, due to its hand truck design and approximate dimensions of L24 x W19.5 x H41.5 in. Its sturdy steel tubing frame provides longevity to the assembly. The foam-padded fixed handle adds to the WPX2800 convenience of transport, while offering a comfortable grip.

The device can be maneuvered with ease by most, since it only weighs 64 lbs. Its 173 cc Westinghouse engine and steel tubing frame account for a good chunk of that weight. Since the WPX2800 has a set of two 12" never-flat wheels, it is still easily maneuvered and manipulated.

Main Features

Along with the Westinghouse WPX2800 itself, the package also includes a spray gun, a pressure hose, 4 nozzles and a detergent injection feature, which are discussed in further detail below.

  • Soap injection: Detergent is stored in a 1 gal tank. However, since the Westinghouse WPX2800 does not feature a soap dilution mechanism, you'll have to make sure your detergent is correctly diluted before use. When a soap nozzle is connected, the detergent will be added automatically to the water.
  • Pressure hose: The 25 ft ⌀1/4" high-pressure hose (2800 PSI rating), which is included with the device, can be stored neatly on the unit itself when idle, using a set of convenient hooks.
  • Spray gun: A side hook allows for an easy storage of the included ergonomic EnduraGrasp spray gun.
  • Nozzles: The table below shows you the 4 included nozzles, as well as the surfaces they're the most appropriate for.

The Westinghouse WPX2800's performance versus other pressure washers

The following charts are provided to give you an idea of how the key specs of the Westinghouse WPX2800 compare to similarly priced pressure washers.

  • The Westinghouse WPX2800 with its 2800 PSI achieves a lower pressure value, compared to other gas-powered pressure washers in the $300-400 price range. If your priority is the highest possible power of the water stream, in this price range, we suggest checking out the Stanley SXPW3425, which reaches up to 3400 PSI.
  • In the aforementioned price range, this washer, with 2.3 GPM (gallons per minute), is placed on the lower end of the GPM scale. In case you are looking for a device which can most efficiently rinse away debris in the current price range, the Lifan LFQ3370 has the highest GPM of 3.
  • With 6440 Cleaning Units (PSI x GPM), the WPX2800 is on the low end when compared to other similarly priced gas-powered devices. In case you are looking for the highest overall cleaning power, in this price range, one of the current champions is the Lifan LFQ3370 and its 9900 Cleaning Units.

Price comparison

As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other gas-powered washers between 6000 and 6500 Cleaning Units, the Westinghouse WPX2800 is on the expensive side of the price range.

While certainly not the cheapest of its cleaning power range, purchasing it could most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.

The bottom line

STRENGTHS:
  • Good range of nozzles included
  • Onboard storage
  • Several security features
  • CARB-compliant
WEAKNESSES:
  • On the expensive side
  • No electric start
  • No detergent dilution mechanism
  • Low PSI for the price
  • Low GPM for the price
  • Low CU for the price
